Professor Emeritus, combinatoria

This will be an expository talk for nonspecialists about some topics in enumerative combinatorics. I will first discuss how sums with alternating signs can be interpreted combinatorially through sign-reversing involutions. Next I will discuss the reflection principle for lattice path enumeration and its generalization to Weyl groups. Finally I will discuss the enumeration of configurations of nonintersecting paths through determinants, with  applications to counting other combinatorial objects such as plane partitions and tilings.
