The goal of this talk is to give a gentle introduction to the theory of hypergeometric motives. We will start by recalling the definition of the Gauss hypergeometric function $_{2}F_1$, the differential equation it satisfies, and how it relates to a motive. The talk is aimed at a general audience, and we will focus on examples to describe the theory and its main properties.
